Simon-Pierre Gourd is a professor of sound creation and new media at l’École des médias de l’Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). He also creates sound in various fields: cinema, radio, television, theater, visual arts and dance. He has also worked as a sound engineer (International Jazz Festival of Montreal), a sound creator in post production (Ciné-Group, Cinar) and an audio CD producer (Fêtes de la nouvelle France, Musée de la civilisation, Québec) .

His works have been presented in different venues and international events such as Concert international d’œuvres audio-visuelles, salle Tetrahedron Concert Hall de la Fondation Logos, Gand, Belgium; [DAM] Digital Art Museum, Sony Center, Berlin; New Music & Arts Festival at the Fine Arts Center Galleries, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio USA; Siggraph 2004, Los Angeles USA; Festival Elektra, Montréal.

His research deals with the creation of interactive systems for new media and live performance. He is especially interested in the perception of sonic language and in forms of representation emerging from new practices.

Interests : Media creation and interactive media, experimental and acoustic music; sound applied to multimedia; musical aesthetics and the perception of sonic language. The conservation and preservation of the works and technological artifacts produced by those art practices.

Researcher and founder of Hexagram, the Institut de Recherche et Création en Arts et Technologies Médiatiques and the Laboratoire Développement d’environnements immersifs et interactifs (DEII).  Centre interuniversitaire des arts médiatiques (CIAM).

Research and residence at GRM (Groupe de recherche musicale) in Paris, at the Vancouver School for the Contemporary Arts (Simon Fraser University), at GMEM (Groupe de musique expérimentale de Marseille), at CCRMA (Centre for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics) of Stanford University, and at the Music Centre of UCSC (California University in Santa Cruz).
